If the sun failed to rise one morning, Chase Jones would be the first to notice. Jones, 22, has witnessed the sunrise over 100 times consecutively in the company of 65 different people, some of whom he had never met before. He started his year-long sunrise goal on October 31, 2011 and is just beginning his fourth month.

The leaves are drifting, the stickiness of humidity is fading and the crispy silence of fall is starting to wash over the night. This means one thing for devoted festival lovers: the fifth annual Bear Creek Music and Arts Festival (BCMF) is swiftly approaching! BCMF is a place where thousands of people gather together for a weekend of costumes, glow sticks, fire-throwing, s’more making, hula-hooping and appreciation of pure artistry. The event is held at the magical Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida and spans over a three day period, Friday November 11th through Saturday, November 13th, with “pre-party” passes starting on Wednesday and Thursday. This year is extra special as the festival falls on 11/11/11 and shimmering full moon, as well as the three-day weekend in honor of Veteran’s Day!

The most recent adaptation Charlotte Brontë’s titular masterpiece Jane Eyre is one of the most visceral, but maybe not the most inspired.

Summertime in Florida doesn’t exactly scream of soup season, but on those dark and rainy summer days when the sun refuses to poke through the clouds, there is definitely something comforting about a big ol’ pot of soup on the stove. This one takes a while to cook, but it’s mostly down time, so it’s a good thing to have simmering away on the stove while you’re doing something else – like watching Battlestar Galactica or trying to beat Super Mario 64 again for the umpteenth time. I suppose you could also do something less nerdy, but those are my suggestions.

Chips and salsa is pretty much a go-to snack for me, but sometimes I like to change it up a little and venture away from the usual jars of salsa I keep in the pantry. Enter party in a bowl. I’ve seen similar recipes with names like “Black Bean, Corn, and Avocado Salad,” or “Fresh Salsa with Black Beans, Corn, and Avocado,” but those names are such a mouthful! Plus, I really feel like they don’t do this festive stuff justice. It’s so colorful and bright that even eating it by yourself on the couch – or straight from the bowl while standing in front of the fridge in the middle of the night – feels like a party.

Why is it that realities unwind
When I am with you and my mind is blank?
You own me, you control me, and you bind.
Still for my freedom, it is you I thank.
I am confused and restless and alive.
You make me question all that is my world.
Yet, in your presence, my peace I derive.
You are the answer that I do unfurl.
These contradictions that have held me back
Only lead me to loving you the more.
Yes, everything I’ve gained, I still do lack.
However, I do trust that I am yours.
Love is the truest untruth of my life:
Everything and nothing ends all my strife.

I traded to you
A part of my mind
For a part of your heart.
We met in
Some hidden bazaar
With innumerable lights
And unfathomable colors
And unrecognizable sounds.
I hoped for nothing more
Or nothing less
Or nothing less than more
Or nothing more than less.
And so I handed it over
After wrapping it smartly
With a dumb ribbon
Woven delicately from
Confused secrets
And silent memories.
You smiled,
I smiled back.
Rinse and repeat.

The recently released Hangover Part II raises a number of questions. For instance: How likely is it that the almost exact same series of events could happen to the same three guys a second time? Or, better yet: will telling that story a second time, while changing virtually nothing save for the location and an occasional upping of the ante, be as funny and successful as the filmmakers hoped? In the case of this movie, the answer is FUCK YEAH!

“If there is no such thing as time, you’re already there, and you’re controlling this cycle.” The opening line of Bright Eyes’ newest album The People’s Key is a strong foreshadowing of what is to come in this trippy, philosophical album unlike any other Bright Eyes work to date.
